So, most of you know that I haven't willfully bought anything at Walmart for a few years now, which is quite the change from before where I teased my friend who refused to walk in the store. Now, that being said, you can now see the vicious growth of Walmart from the few stores that Sam originally had. Check it:
You're the only person I know that actually DOESN'T buy stuff from there... everyone else complains but still shops there. When other stores stop jacking up prices and I can buy cake mixes for under $1 anywhere else, then I will support your cause. Until then, I'm pro-Walmart... sorry
you could always make your own cake...let's see, i'm pretty sure that the amount of eggs, oil, sugar, flour, cocoa, and whatever else you need (depending on the cake, you see) that go into one cake are less than a buck. and it tastes better. besides that...smith's has plenty of cake mixes for under a buck.
you know if you actually shop around at other stores, you'd probably realize that you're not getting that great of deal. Albertson's has cake mixes on their 10 for $10 all the time (and here's a hint, you don't have to buy 10) you might save $5 bucks on a $100 of groceries if you were to shop walmart, I'll admit, but by being a smarter shopper you can save similarly at other stores. i.e. students at USU, BYU, or the U can save %5 on everything at Smith's with a student fresh values card. Not too shabby. Plus just walking into wal-mart automatically wastes an extra 15-20 minutes, whether it's waiting in line to check out or trying to find something because they've moved it to get you walk around the store more and spend more money. For busy individuals like everyone is, time is money that 20 minutes for someone who works for $10/hr is like 3 bucks wasted. You might save some money, but overall it's not worth my time or effort. Ask yourself when the last time you enjoyed your wal-mart shopping experience, and then tell me why you're pro-walmart.
Why exactly do you hate Walmart, other than your preference for a more hip, urban environment while you shop? As far as I can tell, Walmart is successful because it is very efficient. The resources put into failing "Mom and Pop" stores are better spent elsewhere. Yes, Walmart workers lack a union, but it's also inherently hard to unionize a workforce as transient as Walmart's (I have at least 3 friends who worked at Walmart for less than 4 months before they quit). And really, do serious adults make careers out of Walmart? The others can be helped in more efficient ways than boycotting their means of livelihood (like donating your savings to charity or something).
I'm a Film and Physics student, expecting to graduate with both degrees May 2011. I love gadgets, and I love good design. I play soccer quite regularly, and I'm about to begin training to complete a triathlon sometime this year. I usually say what I think, but I hardly ever deliberately offend (I'm a realist, and sometimes my emotions get the best of me.) Most of all, I like discussion, so feel free to express you views as well!
